GRDC works closely with residents and law enforcement agencies to prevent crime and keep our community safe. Caring neighbors, strong neighborhood associations and active block clubs are the foundation of our approach to community safety.

Crime Prevention Task Force

GRDC helps coordinate a neighborhood-wide Crime Prevention Task Force. This group organizes a monthly Neighborhood Safety Meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month. The Safety Meetings bring together residents and law enforcement officers to work hand-in-hand to prevent crime and keep our community safe. Special Assessment District

GRDC spearheaded a successful campaign to gain support of community organizations city-wide to encourage the Detroit city-council members to support the passage of the Special Assessment District ordinance. Finally, after a three year campaign the city-council voted unanimously to pass the Special Assessment District ordinance in April 2014.

A Special Assessment District is a tool that allows property owners to contribute financially for services such as security, snow removal and mosquito abatement. These high-quality services ADD to the services already being provided by the City of Detroit. The strength of this concept is that it would provide substantial resources on an annual, sustainable basis.

The Special Assessment District being proposed for Grandmont Rosedale would encompass the residential blocks within the following neighborhoods: Grandmont, Grandmont #1, Minock Park, North Rosedale Park, and Rosedale Park.  The neighborhood associations representing all five of these communities have agreed to join the campaign to establish the S.A.D.

The assessments, or taxes collected, will fund the additional snow removal and security services. The funds are collected by the City of Detroit and returned to Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation (the Designated Neighborhood Improvement Organization or DNIO) which administers the funds and contracts for services. The cost to Grandmont Rosedale residents will be $250 annually, plus a $2.50 city administration fee, administered on the summer tax bill.
